Yoga Teacher: Maryella

Maryella Matthews is a yoga instructor at Above and Beyond Yoga studio in Mobile. She has been teaching various styles of yoga for more than five years. She has trained with Sri Dharma Mittra master teachers and learned the Surya Namaskar vinyasa flow, and recently completed her Hatha Yoga Teacher training. Maryella is a level 2 Reiki practitioner. “I enjoy weaving sound therapy into my yoga classes because I believe it helps restore a sense of wellbeing.”
Sound Bath Practitioners: Ashley & Tony

Tony studied at the University of South Alabama, graduating in 1990 with a degree in communications and a minor in psychology. He served six years in the Army National Guard before pursuing a career as a professional musician. Tony traveled regionally, performing with an Elton John impersonator for five years and previously touring with an Elvis impersonator for 15 years. He is a multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, saxophone, steel drum, and piano.
Tony began meditating 10 years ago and started attending the center about four years ago. With the encouragement of Ashley Black, he developed an interest in sound bowls and has assisted her in several meditation events. He is grateful to be part of the meditation community and always sends love and positive energy to his fellow meditators.

Ashley Black has been meditating regularly for several years and is a volunteer at the Meditation Center of Alabama. She moved from Huntsville to Mobile in 2019. Ashley is a nurse and has a bachelor’s degree in metaphysical science from the University of Sedona. Ashley is a certified Mindfulness & Meditation Trainer from World Peace Initiative. She is passionate about peace and positive self transformation.
Meditation Coach: Lar

Lar Nimit is the director and founder of the Meditation Center of Alabama. With over 25 years of meditation experience, she has explored various techniques and has been dedicated to practicing the Middle Way Meditation method for more than two decades.
Beyond her deep commitment to meditation, Lar is a certified public accountant and previously owned Bangkok Thai Cuisine, a beloved local Thai restaurant. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand, and a Master’s degree in Economics from Western Michigan University.
Her passion for holistic healing has led her to study Universe Energy Healing and Pranic Healing in depth. She is a Qigong coach, having attended multiple Qigong classes at the Omega Institute in New York. Lar is a certified Mindfulness & Meditation Coach from World Peace Initiative and has completed MBSR Instructor Training from the Mindfulness and Health Institute.
She is dedicated to spreading true inner peace and happiness, helping others cultivate mindfulness and well-being through the transformative power of meditation. Lar’s vision is to create a Meditation Retreat Center for the community, providing a sanctuary where individuals can find peace, clarity, and deeper spiritual connection.
